The Left as Enemies of the Principles of the American Revolution

In this essay we will examine the opposition of the Marxist-Leninist Left to the principles of the American Revolution here in the United States. The American Left, as I will refer to them in this essay, truly despise the radical libertarian principles of the American Revolution and the social impact it has had on the United States and the world. In this essay the principles of the American Revolution are not the current principles of the neoconservative movement, nor that of modern conservatism. The American Revolution's principles are that of Locke, Sidney, the English Levellers, and the American Revolutionaries in opposition to the principles of the Old World of which Marxist-Leninism is a product.

The Marxist Leninist Mindset

The Marxist Leninst mind sees man only in economic terms, much like Old World conservatism. Men in both theories exist only in the context of their economic lives, not in their moral and spiritual existance. The Left claims to be "revolutionary" and set on "freeing" the "proletariat" from the oppression of the upper classes. There is nothing "revolutionary" about Marxist philosophy. Marxist philosophy replaces the king, lords and church with the party, the "leader" and "dictatorship of the proletariat". These are all variations of feudal European thought. For example feudal landownership that the nobility used to exploit their serfs is not much different than Marxist "collective farms".In both instances the workers and farmers have no real interest in the property they work on. One works for the lord, the other for the state. In both cases men become slaves. In both instances men are ruled over by overseers and kommisars who direct them what to sow and reap, dole how much they can earn and prevent them, by coercion and police power, from revolting or seeking redress of any grievences. Men are the slaves rather than the masters of their servants, the polticians.

The American Left, once the proud libertarian patriots of the American Revolution, were replaced in the early 20th century by Marxist revolutionaries and "progressives". These Marxists slowly invaded the Democratic Party ( originally formed as the Democratic-Republician party by Jefferson and Madison) and took the party from it's revolutionary Jeffersonian roots to a socialist and statist political party.
Now the Democratic Party is made up of socialists, diversicrats, "multiculturalists", and outright Marxists. Many in the Democratic Party express genuine hatred for " dead white males" like their party's founders. Affirmative action, multiculturalism, and other racially divisive programs are the norm and the principles of individual liberty and Jeffersonian Democracy are cast aside.

The American Left have completely abandoned any semblence of believing in Jeffersonian principles, as have their supposed "conservative" Republican opponents. Both parties believe in a command-control society with orders given from above, or in the old Tory term, from "their betters". Economic and social life are tightly controlled by the leftist mentality, much as it used to be in a monarchial society. Aristocracy in the form of government bureucrats, politicians, and corporations dominate the landscape. Although most leftists do not believe in organized religion, they substitute it with their own religion of multiculturalism, group thought, and social engineering. This is all enforced by their courts of Inquisition. Hate crimes, set asides, affirmative action, preferences, etc are the new dogma of their new secular religion. This religion is like it's nemesis, the Christian Right. Both demand undying devotion to their religious or secular worldview. Both demand uniformity based upon their tyrannical and fanatical belief systems totally at variance with the principles of the American Revolution. Both reject the Revolutionary doctrine of natural rights, and freedom of all against the tyrannical acts of government, ANY GOVERNMENT.

The American Revolution vs the Modern Left

As I have shown in previous essays the American Revolution was a radical libertarian revolution against power and arbitrary government. Left wing ideology ( of the modern kind) is the epitome of power and arbitrary government. Look at the Soviet regime, China, Cambodia's Pol Pot, and North Korea. Are those poor people free? I think not. They are SLAVES. Slavery doesn't just mean chattel slavery, but more importantly mental slavery. Slavery that enslaves the mind is worse than that which enslaves the body. If one can be made to think a certain way, his slavery is total and complete. Communist regimes, following the old order of the alter and the throne, use people like animals. Brainwashing, slave labor camps, mental indoctrination, etc are all the complete antithesis of the American Revolution. The American Revolution on the other hand stood for the rights of mankind. Freedom of speech, assembly, press, religion, protection of habeus corpus, and jury trial, although ancient English liberties, were improved on and complimented by the Lockian view of natural rights. Natural rights are those rights inhernet to us as human beings. Rights of conscience, person and movement being just a few.
Leftists hate this concept. They hate it because if men have natural, unalienable rights and liberties then their feudal plantation of tyranny is immoral and subject to being overthrown. This, is for them ( the Left), is their greatest fear: loss of absolute power.

The Left vs the Sovereignty of the People

Popular sovereignty is a truly radical concept that is rejected by both the right and left. It is the prime ideal of the American Revolution. The Sovereignty of the People is the inalienable right of the people to possess self government and their right to overthrow any government that does not suit their ends. In this ideal all government is instituted for the happiness of the people, and any government that becomes a tyranny or violates the people's rights breaks the social contract with the people who no longer owe any allegience. This doctrine is far more radical than anything a Marxist revolutionary could come up with. This ideal flies in the face of Marxist oppression and despotism. The Left totally and completely rejects this revolutionary ideal. Along with their right wing opponents they rape and plunder the common man through taxes, inflationary banking schemes, regulations, aristocratical privileges for politicians and special interests, and a declining standard of living.
Both left and right are like two Mafia crime families fighting over territory; the territory is the liberty and fortunes of the people..

Conservative Allies

We are taught, or should I say indoctrinated, to believe that the left and right are polar opposites and enemies. This is a falsehood. On the surface, they seem like bitter enemies. Fights over gay marriage, taxes, free trade, budgets, social programs, etc are all surface oriented. Underneath this veneer is the iron hand of despotism. Both camps advocate a powerful centralized government far worse than the British Parliament that the American Revolutionaries revolted against. Now we hear conservatives proposing federal control of marriage, regulating intrastate commerce, preaching total war and empire, and picking and choosing states rights when it benefits them. The left loves this, even though they may hate the conservative social program. More centralized government means more power for when they get into office. Affirmative action, set asides, hate crimes, and other racist measures will be passed at the federal level, further feeding the federal leviathan.
Neither care about Jeffersonian Democracy. In short, there will be a future essay detailing it later, Jeffersonian Demcoracy means rule by the people over their agents. Smaller, local government, and more liberty and freedom for citizens. Jeffersonian Democracy also means preserving and cherishing the natural rights of the people against power centralized government. This is anathema to the left.

Marxism and the Neoconservatives

The current neoconservative movement has it's roots in the left and zionism. Both zionism and Marxist-Leninism are despotic philosophies.
Most neocons: Wolfowitz, David Frum, Donald Kagan, Richard Pearle, Elliot Abrams, William Kristol, have their roots in left wing ideology. Most, if not all, of these neocons are followers of Leon Trotsky and Leo Struass. They totally and completely reject the ideology of the American Revolution. Limited government, individual freedom and liberty, and the sovereignty of the people are alien concepts to these folks. As a matter of fact, many like Bill Kristol overtly have stated that the "Jeffersonian vision" of America is dead. Instead the ideal of a huge imperial Leviathan running roughshod across the globe enforcing what they term "democracy", which is really fascism with the rhetoric of freedom. True democracy is where the people rule, and liberty is secure. Representative democracy or in the language of the American Revolution "republicanism" is not the ruling of the world. Neocons, like their fanatical brothers in Isreal, the Likud, love powerful and centralized government. They are true heretics to the ideals of America and it's revolution.

Marxist Cultural Revolution

I am a supporter of revolution, but only a revolution that secures liberty and freedom. Marxist "cultural warriors" are a different story. Since they hate the principles of the American Revolution and it's radical consequences they are constantly doing their best to engender a cultural revolution within the United States to destroy a once great Western civilization. Below I will outline their strategy:

Destroy the Middle Class

Through high taxes, regulations, and racist affirmative action programs the cultural Marxist begins his breakdown of American Revolutionary principles. Marxists hate the middle class, and strive to drive down their wages and culture. Workers are enslaved by big government taxes like witholding taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes, and a multitude of other inane but no less oppressive taxes. The IRS is the enforcement arm of the federal income tax pillage. Seizures of bank accounts, administrative "hearings" without the benefit of jury trial, and imprisonment are the norm as hard working middle class Americans are fleeced to support politicians in Washington and their privileged lifestyle.

Attack on American History and it's Revolution

Most Marxists, unlike the Marxist left of the early 2oth century, spend an inordinante amount of time and energy smashing American libertarian and patriotic icons like Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. The American Revolution is labeled a "capitalist" revolution and one where slaveholders and other wealthy elites simply wanted separation from Britian. Now there is some kernel of truth that some American conservatives hated the social and economic consquences of the Revolution, but as Murray Rothbard points out in his "Conceived In Liberty" series, the Revolution was a mass movement of the people. He correctly points out how a minority may hold a leadership role, but that for a revolution to succeed the masses must be behind it. The radical wing of the American Revolution stood for the rights of the people against government and special interests. Men like Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Richard Henry Lee and Patrick henry stood at the forefront for the liberty of the masses. Marxist revolutionaries on the other hand used libertarian rhetoric, but enslaved the masses after the Revolution was completed.

Marxists hate the American Revolution due to it's radical and far reaching libertarian results which are at total variance with their worldview of revolution. The freedom of the individual, economic and personal liberty, the diluting of class distinctions, the annihilation of monarchy and nobility, and the separation of church and state were all results that the Revolution produced. This is anathema to the Marxist, the purveyor of Old World centralized power, who hates personal freedom and individual liberty. Now these cultural Marxists wish to uproot and destroy all of our revolutionary foundation by labeling the Founding Fathers "racist", "sexist", "homophobe", "dead white males" and other nihilistic and empty terms. This propaganda must be refuted! We must redeem our revolution against the despotism and hate that the Marxist Left spews.

Marxists and their consevative opponents have a vested interest in downgrading and shunting the aside the American Revolution: POWER.
Both need to destroy the principles of liberty to erect their tyrannies.

Marxist Deconstruction of Society

In the last 40 years Marxists have practiced the "deconstruction" of American history and society. They have infiltrated colleges and schools and through tenure, served for decades slowly engrafting their hateful and anti-American ideals into the curriculum. Many colleges now have ultra radical left groups who riot for affirmative action, scream for more taxpayer subsidies, and openly discriminate against whites and asians.
One of the methods of deconstruction is to indoctrinate people into hating their race ( usually white males) by calling them "oppressors" and
"white racists". Some colleges even have seminars where young left wing "minority" students stand and berate whites and call them names and telling them to be "ashamed" of their race. Also third world cultures and despotisms are elevated to high status as equal with American republicanism. Witch doctors are praised for using "alternative" medicine, and savage societies are considered 'enlightened". The more savage, the better. Within this vein, the curriculum is changed. Men like Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Shakespeare, Milton, Seneca, Aristotle,and other pillars of Western civilization are shunted aside as "dead white males" and not worthy of being taught to a "diverse" student body.
This deconstruction of American History is really a brainwashing of the young into the nilhistic principles of group think, race hatred, and self immolation. This is and will eventually destroy American society.

Expropriation of Private Property

Marxists hate the concept of private ownership of property, no matter how small. The United States is a nation of the middle class. Yes, there is a wealthy aristocracy at the top that uses it's wealth a power to feed off the people through government, but for the most part 85-90% fall in the middle income bracket. Marxists truly despise the middle class or "bougsousie" as they call them. Marxists used the income and other taxes such as property taxes to expropriate the private property of the middle class to drain them of wealth. Once done, they hope to drive them hopelessly into poverty and ignorance, eventually leading to slavery.

Marxists also love property, government property. Look at the current and former leaders of communist dictatorships. Men like Fidel Castro, the leaders of China and North Korea, and the former leaders of Eastern Europe lived lavishly. Personal servants, limos, bodyguards, all the women they want, high diet, alcohol, etc are all on the menu for these despots. These men are truly the nobility of the comunnist world, with the people as their serfs, and slaves. What communists are actually doing is living like the feudal aristocrats of Old Europe, emulating the despots of
the middle ages. While they live lavishly their people starve, suffer from disease and alcoholism, and live lives of ignorance and superstition. They are reduced to what Jefferson called the " the war of all against all."

Folks, this is the true face of Marxist-Leninist/ Left wing ideology. Don't be fooled by their rhetoric. Remember they hate the very concept of America- individual liberty and self government.

The Radicalism of the American Revolution, Part 2- Extralegal Government

In Part two of the Radicalism of the American Revolution we will examine the radical committees of public safety, correspondence, and inspection that became the de-facto government due to the collapse of the "constituted authorities" as the British and Tories called it.

The Collapse of British Authority in America

From 1764 to the total collapse of British regal authority in America in 1774/ 1775 the American colonists undermined the "constituted authorities" in colonial America. British authority was uprooted and destroyed by extralegal means. These extralegal means generally took the forms of committees of correspondence, committees of public safety, congresses like the Stamp Act Congress, and the first and second Continental Congresses. Conservatives of the time ( mostly the wealthy aristocrats, royal government officials, and military leaders) were appalled by these methods of nascent revolution. They denounced the colonists as "factious", "disaffected men", "seditious", "democrats" and "downright republicans" who were intending to "overthrow all government."

With the advent of the Stamp Act crisis, the colonists formed into "Sons of Liberty" who directed resistance to the Stamp Act by petitions to Parliament, petitions to their Assemblies to resist the tyrannical act, and in the case of the Connecticut and New York Sons of Liberty entered into military alliances. Stamp collectors were threatened, effigies of royal officials and stamp agents were burned in public, and newspapers denounced the act as unconstitutional. Supporters of the act were declared "enemies of their country." Royal officials denounced the protests as "mobocracy", " mobs of the lower sort", and "dangerous and designing men". Due to this, extralegal resistance newspapers in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts, continued their publishing without the stamps. Courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts stayed open and ships with stamps were not permitted to land. All of this was in defiance of the Stamp Act and the "constituted authorities".

Petitions, Remonstrances, and Declarations

Other extra legal means used were the use of petitions to Parliament, and remostrances and declarations stating the rights of the colonists and declaring that supporters of the British were "enemies of their country".
Town meetings, public gatherings and secret meetings of organizations like the Sons of Liberty were used to apply pressure to Britian.

The words of the Virginia Stamp Act Resolutions ring out resoundingly:

" That the General Assembly of this colony have the only and sole exclusive right to lay taxes and impositions upon the inhabitants of this Colony, and that every attempt to vest such power in any person or persons whatsoever other than the General Assembly aforesaid has a manifest tendency to destroy British as well as American freedom."

And again:

" That any person who shall, by speaking or writing, assert or maintain that any person or persons other than the General Assembly of this Colony, have any right or power to impose or lay any taxation on the people here shall be deemed an enemy to His Majesty's Colony."

These ringing words were the opening salvo of the American Revolution, a revolution for liberty against arbitrary power. Sound like conservatism? Hardly. Conservatives have generally been the defenders of strong government, "law and order", and hierarchy. Back to the colonists. Effigies of royal officers, stamp distributors, and Tories were burned, hanged and given mock funerals to frighten and intimidate the government and rouse the populace.

The Destruction of Property

This may sound like a shock, but the revolutionaries frequently incited crowds to destroy the property of tories, royal officials, and ships of the royal navy. Governors Bernard and Hutchinson of Massachusetts had their homes ransacked and destroyed by revolutionary mobs incensed by the tyrannical acts of the British government. In Rhode Island ,royal navy ships were scuttled and in the case of the Gaspee in 1772, burned to the ground. The captain of the Gaspee was assaulted and shot ( he survived) and no prosecution was ever attempted. In Massachusetts the Boston Tea Party in December 1773 destroyed the tea belonging to the British East India Company by throwing it into Boston Harbor . Government stamps during the Stamp Act crisis were seized and burned , and revolutionary mobs threatened the stamp distributors with death if they accepted their commissions. There were many, many other incidents of violence, property destruction and confiscation, all of which further radicalised the colonists.

Economic Coercion

As the Revolution progressed committees of safety, and inspection were formed in addition to the committees of correspondence. These committees were designed to enforce the economic boycotts proposed in each colony and the Continental Congress. Committees of Inspection forced merchants and businessmen to boycott British goods, and to enter into nonimportation and nonexportation agreements. All merchants who refused the boycott agreements were labeled as "enemies of their country" and "tories". Committees demanded the merchants to turn over their records to the committee for inspection to ensure the agreements were being adhered to. Merchants not in compliance were boycotted and
advertised as "traitors".

Committees of Safety were extralegal bodies which organized communities to defend themselves against the British military and American Tories. These committees forced accused tories and traitors to appear before them to explain any suspected behavior. Any person judged guilty by these committees were usually banished and their property confiscated. Lists of tories were published in public places declaring them as "traitors", "enemies of their country", and calling for them to depart. These committees also assisted in organizing local militias and appointing militia officers. These committees, while elected by the people, were a virtual revolutionary dictatorship.

Nullification of Unconstitutional Laws

In every colony the eventual nullification of British authority took place. Some, like Massachusetts and Rhode Island, were displaying this radical doctrine early on, and others, like Georgia and Pennsylvania came around near the end of the Revolutionary War. This doctrine of nullification was as radical then as it is now. All governments despise challenges to their authority and particularly challenges that defy the "legitimate authorities". Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and other New England colonies were the first to use this doctrine and appeal to the "natural rights" of the colonists. Mobs of angry colonists would confront tories such as stamp distributors, customs offciers, and other royally appointed officials and threaten them with hanging, and other forms of violence. These officials would be forced publically to renounce their office or the policies of the British government. This is in direct contravention of the "consensus" and "conservative" historians which to this day maintain that the American Revolution was a mild, and really non-revolutionary event. The theory of a "conservative" revolution is a fraud perpetrated by conservative elements in the United States to justify their anti-republican views and policies.

Lessons for Today

What do we learn from this radicalism? Is it proper for our society today?
I believe the answer to both questions is yes. All people have a natural right to defend their liberties and freedom from government or private entities. A short example would be the Alien and Sedition Acts during the late 1790's. Just twenty two years after the end of the Revolutionary War, the Federalists passed the most tyrannical acts in the history of the United States. The Alien and Sedition Acts were passed by rabid conservatives, many old Tories and Tory sympathizers, to destroy free speech and opposition to their centralizing policies and schemes. The Federalists used the same rhetoric used by the British governement during the Revolution calling their opponents "disorganizers", "enemies of government", "reptiles", "jacobins", and "traitors". The Federalists, like the modern day conservative movement, loved power and "order". They exaulted then President Washington into a monarchial and almost God-like firgure who should be above political attack.

President Adams, long a believer in aristocracy and "balanced" government was a staunch supporter of the Alien and Sedition Acts. Adams relished in having his opponents ( the Jeffersonian editors) prosecuted and seemed to embrace a British view of government, by maintaining that people could not critisize their "leaders" or "governors".
The response to this tyranny was Jefferson and Madison's Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions. These libertarian resolutions declared the states to be independent and only united in compact for federal purposes. Jefferson's version stated that the States had the authority to "nullify" a unconstitutional federal law, and that such laws were "void" and "of no force". This was the spirit of the American Revolution. As shown above the colonies used such language in the revolution against British authority. The nullification and voiding of unconstitutional federal laws is a radical and revolutionary ideal worthy of the enlightened patriots of the American Revolution. The Alien and Sedition Crisis shows that a populace should be ever vigilent to defend their liberties. Men in power, and who make their living off of that power will normally not part with it without violence or revolution. A revolution, as Murray Rothbard has correctly pointed out in his "Conceived in Liberty" series, must have the support of the mass of the populace to succeed. Violence used by the American revolutionaries was to throw off tyranny and oppression, while violence used by the British was used to defend the oligarchy and their interests, separate frome the people.

In today's climate to oppose the policies of the Federal government, question the Iraq war, or openly critisize President Bush is met with derision and ad hominem attack by reactionary forces. Fanatical right wingers have elevated President Bush to near God-like status, to be held above reproach. Christian Rightists have even admonished their opponents with the tyrannical thoughts of St Paul in Romans 13 to obey government since all are appointed by God. This IS NOT THE DOCTRINE OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION! In the United States the PEOPLE are sovereign, not the government! Howard Phillips of the Constitution Party constantly states that in America "God is the sovereign". No, Mr Phillips, in the United States the PEOPLE are the sovereign as stated in the Declaration of Independence. Government is only valid when having "the consent of the governed".

What we need is a revival of the Spirit of 1776 and Jefferson's Revolution of 1800. We must be on constant watch and jealous of any power delegated to government, especially the central government. As Jefferson stated "free government is founded in jealousy, not confidence."

Confidence in government will result in slavery and the annhilation of the natural rights of the people. Let us harken back to the American Revolution and utilize the path our Founders have laid for us before it is too late.

The Radicalism of the American Revolution

In this essay I will lay out the origins and effects of the radicalism that pervaded the American Revolution, and it's after effects on American society. My intent is to refute the lies, propaganda, and falsehoods propagated by neoconservatives, and religious fanatics and leftists who continue to shovel nonsense to a gullible public that the American Revolution was "conservative". This view that both groups peddle has infected the American mind making America one of the most anti-revolutionary nations in the world, and has caused a reactionary conservatism to develop in the United States in complete contravention of it's revolutionary foundations.

First let me begin with a few comments on the idea of America itself. The English colonies were seen by many European immigrants as a refuge from the tyrannies of the Old World. This virgin continent was seen as a tabla rasa by these immigrants in which they would be able to celebrate their different forms of religion without the intervention of the state, where they could pursue economic freedom without the brutal hand of feudalism and hierarchy, and were land was abundant. The idea, whether immediately recognized, or not, was liberty. This is what separates America from all of the other nations of the world ; the revolutionary ideal of opportunity, individual liberty, and self government. The British colonies would be the fertile ground for the seeds of these freedoms to grow. The English tradition of liberty burned bright in the American colonies, unlike the Spanish, French or Portugese colonies where absolute despotism was the primary ideal in their governments. Let us move on to the radical beginnings of the American Revolution, and it's consequent after effects.

Liberty vs Power

Deep within the minds of the colonists was idea of liberty vs power. Government whether in Britian or America was a powerful institution. Government, especially in Great Britian was the purview of the aristocracy and wealthy sycophants of the monarchy. The common people were either excluded by high property qualifications for voting and holding office, or were disenfranchised by ignorance, poverty, and corruption. Although, these conditions existed in America also; they were blunted by the weakness of feudalism, and relatively equal distribution of wealth. Powerful families, government bureaucrats, the high clergy, and the King's executive officers represented the power elite that that the sword of liberty was aimed at. Americans were a far freer people than those of Europe. That said, they still were oppressed by the ideals of the Old World. Now I will list the philosophies that made the American Revolution the most radical revolution to ever occur.

Abolition of Monarchy

This needs very little explaination. The monarchy of George the III was overthrown in America, and abolished. All allegience and loyalty to the king was repudiated and all royal offices and governments abolished. This in and of itself, was radical in a world of kings and aristocracy.

Establishment of a Republic

The United States became the first true republic since ancient times. A government which lodged sovereignty in the people, not a monarch, Parliament, or feudal aristocracy. A government was set up dividing governmental power into executive, legislative and judicial offices. Also, the first American constitution, the Articles of Confederation, abolished all titles of nobility in the United States and provided for a limited central government. It also prescribed term limits for members of the Confederation Congress, a far cry from the British Parliament with it's pensioners, placemen, and unrepresentative districts, or "rotten borroughs" if you may.

Prohibition of Titles of Nobility

As I eluded to above titles of nobility were abolished and prohibited by not only the Confederation, but by each state in the United States. Citizens were declared equal under the law. This was a radical idea considering that all of Europe was governed by an aristocratical nobility. Although Americans did not have dukes, lords and knights in the colonies, they had royally appointed governors, who were members of the aristocracy, and who served at the pleasure of the king.

Hostility to Standing Armies

Americans had inherited the English revolutionaries hostility to standing armies. Standing armies, it was correctly pointed out, always were the destroyers of freedom and liberty at the behest of the despot. All the colonies had militias made up of the bulk of the male populace. These militias were locally run and democratically governed. Officers were elected and removed by the members for poor leadership or lack of confidence. This was a far cry form the conscripted paupers and poor commoners of the British Isles most of whom were impressed into military service.

Expulsion of the Tories

It is estimated that over 100, 000 Tories were expelled from the United States during the War of the Revolution. Most fled to Canada or back to Britian. Their property was confiscated, they were tried before revolutionary committees, and forced to flee. Some of the more egregious Tories who militarily joined the British were executed. Most states sold the large confiscated land holdings and parceled them out in small tracts that the common and middle class colonists could easily afford. This helped establish a large middle class of farmers and artisans. Tory lands were taken without legal proceedings much of the time; and revolutionary committees generally declared Tories outlaws and traitors.

Establishment of Revolutionary Government

The American Revolution overthrew the "legitimate authorities" in the colonies and instead established extra legal government. This extra legal government consisted of Committees of Safety and Correspondence, Revolutionary tribunals and Committees of Inspection for enforcement of boycotts and prosecution of offenders. Committees sent representatives to localities to relay and enforce the decrees and orders of the committees. These would be an example for the French in their revolution where they were called "representatives on mission". Committees published the names of violators of boycotts and embargoes, prosecuted Tories, and organized defensive measures for towns and other localities. Those defying the committees were labeled "traitors" and "enemies to their country". Most of these committees were democratically elected in their localities.

Doctrine of Popular Sovereignty

The American Revolution was not only the first modern war of national liberation, but the first to declare the "sovereignty of the people", and that "all government derives from the people". It was articulated that the object of government was protection of the rights of the people, and that their happiness was the "only legitimate purpose" for government. It was further declared that government that was closest to the people was the most effective and provided the most security for their rights and happiness. These doctrines were extremely radical and did not derive from the doctrines of European government. Popular sovereignty was unheard of in Europe where people were ground down by poverty, ignorance, slavery, and feudalism. Contrary to what neoconservatives and many libertarians believe , the American Revolution was about democratic governance. It was about the right of a free people to govern themselves, not just about free trade, or capitalist property relations.

Religious Liberty

Contrary to the lies and myths of the Chrisitan Right, the American Revolution was also about religious liberty. Although religious liberty did not come immediately or quickly, it did come. The United States was the first nation to base government authority on the "consent of the governed" instead of belief in God. Both the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution ban religious tests for public office and do not invoke God in any way. Seven states just after the Revolution gave Roman Catholics the right to vote and hold office, and nearly all of the colonies that had state established churches disestablished them. Virginia, with Jefferson and Madison at the helm, became the first state in the Western world to completely separate religious belief from civil rights. All men " would be free profess their opinions in matters of religion" as the 1786 Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom articulates. Within 60 years all official state sponsered religions were abolished the last two being Connecticut in 1818 and Massachusetts in 1833. This was a radical and truly remarkable ideal which the American Revolution brought to fruition for the Western world.

Individual Liberty

The American Revolution also brought the rights of individuals to the forfront of the the struggle. Freedom of the Press, Speech, and Religion were articulated as inalienable rights that all human beings are entitled to. Ancient English liberties were expounded on and improved. The US Constitution provides for the Right to Counsel, the right to Trial by Jury, the Right against self incrimination, the Right against Unreasonable Searches and Seizures, the abolition of Cruel and Unusual Punishments, etc. These rights are found in the 1st,5th, 6th, and 8th Amendments of the Constitution. Also the right of habeus corpus is granted , only to be suspended by the US Congress during rebellion or invasion, and denying such power to the executive branch. Lastly the right of not only individual states, but individuals themselves to possess firearms for self defense and more importantly, defense against tyrannical government. These rights were not allowed in Europe, and were even considered dangerous and unecessary by conservatives in America.

The Right to Private Property

The right to own private property is very important. In America land was abundant, and feudal land titles, while in existance, were weak. People in America could easily buy, and sell property. Most colonists were small farmers on farms 50 acres or less. Private property ownership is necessary to a free republic. Men must have means and property to live comfortably, unlike their counterparts in the poverty stricken Europe of the time. Possession of property was seen as giving human beings the ability to be independent, prosperous, and to be able to pursue and secure their own happiness. We must be careful to not construe this belief in private property to be a belief in unrestrained corporate power. The Founders did not believe in bodies like corporations being independent of the people. They saw the tyranny associated with mercantilism by watching the power of British corporations like the East India Company over their lives. Monopoly powers granted to owners of private property were feared and guarded against by refusing to give Congress that power. Corporations were seen as artificial entities subject to government charter and review, not with rights like human beings.

Limited Federal Powers

It is forgotten today that the American Revolution was a revolution against a tyrannical central government. ( the British Parliament and King) The Articles of Confederation and the US Constitution provide for a federal structure in which the States grant the central authority power for certain defined purposes like foreign affairs, national defense, coining money, regulating foreign commerce, etc. The States then reserve all other powers to themselves. This confederate fabric was very radical in a world of strong centralized government which were governed by absolute monarchies, supreme legislatures, high clergy, emperors and other similar despotisms. The concept of a federal republic was to ensure that power was divided among the different jusrisdictions to preserve liberty and the self government of the citizens of the States. Compare these ideals to today where there is nothing the Federal government does not regulate or do. This is a result of the neoconservative mindset that strong central government ruling over people is best.

Abolition of Feudalism

Although feudalism was weaker in America than in Europe, it still existed and impacted colonists adversely. Primogeniture, entail, quitrents, slavery, indentured servitude, and other vestiges of feudalism existed in every colony. In Virginia, Entail and Primogeniture were attacked at repealed with the effort of Thomas Jefferson, who faced massive opposition from Virginia conservatives. In New York State feudal land servitude was destroyed by the Revolution, as Tory estates that were confiscated were parceled out to common farmers and the feudal land titles abolished. Quitrents and other "rents" paid by tenants were abolished and large landholdings broken up for good. Men like Jefferson attempted to abolish slavery nationally through such documents like the 1784 and 87 Northwest Ordinances. The abolition only failed by the votes of a few southern states. Jefferson did succeed in abolishing the slave trade in Virginia, and wrote a radical constitution providing that every man be given 50 acres of land to be a freeholder and private property owner. Such land would come from Virginia's vast open range. In Virginia due to Jefferson's effort women were given the equal right of inheritance through his abolition of primogeniture and entail. Such changes are not the result of a "conservative" revolution. These are the results of a inate radicalism.

The Common Man as an Equal

After the American Revolution no longer did the common man: the farmer, artisan, baker, sailor, or workman, see themselves as the "lower sort". The Revolution broke the chains of aristocracy and it's mindset of inequality and suppression of the poor and middle class. Men were freed from the shackes of bowing to their "betters" and a new invigorated market society developed based upon talent and merit instead of aristocracy.

As you can see, my dear reader, the American Revolution defies both the conventional logic, or propaganda if you will, about it's intellectual origin. It is not a "conservative" revolution as both the right and left promote. The right promote it as "conservative" since they hate radicalism, especially Enlightenment radicalism, while the left promote it as conservative because it doesn't embrace Marxist tyranny, which they somehow consider "radical".

Embrace the radicalism of the American Revolution! Read the writings of Jefferson, Paine, Madison, and other Jeffersonians. Read the writings of the English Levellers, Locke, Algernon Sidney, etc and you will find a true radical movement for the liberties of man. The Enlightenment, of which the United States is a product, has brought more freedom to the world than any other than any other is under attack by reactionary right wing and left wing forces. Be aware of our rich and radical history, embrace it, and promote it, and spread it's message of freedom far and wide, and maybe, just maybe we can save America. If we don't become aware of our radical history, or believe the propaganda peddled by the elites that the American Revolution was "conservative" or "reactionary" as some leftists have called it, the fruits of the American Revolution will be lost along with our liberty.

All Hail the Emperor!

All Hail the Emperor!

This was the cry of the citizens and politicians of Rome when the name of Caesar was spoken or he rode by. Heads bowed, hands saluted, and the populace was awed by the Emperor, who was elevated to near god-like status. When founded,the American Republic eliminated royalty, nobility, and imperial government. The President, contrary to the wishes of monarchist John Adams, is not called "your majesty", "royal highness", "my lord", or "the sovereign". The Founders, particularly the Jeffersonians, rejected such slavish and aristocratical titles and ideals.


With the rise of the National Security State after World War II, the growth and usurpation of power by the executive branch has changed the face of the American Republic forever. The Executive, once considered the weakest branch of the federal government, is now the most powerful of the three branches. Every President since Harry Truman has involved American forces in overseas adventures and wars with little or no imput from the US Congress. The Congress has not provided any check on the powers of the President and has allowed it's own power to be seized by the President and the federal courts. This has created the rise of an imperial mindset to grow in the United States.

This mindset, what I call the new royalty, has been propagated by both major political parties. Whether a Democrat or Republican in office, each party vehemently defends "their man" no matter what. Lies, corruption, dishonesty, are all cast away by political partisanship. The Republican Party has now taken this royal worship of " their man" to a height not seen before in the United States. Let us examine how George Bush has been elevated to being the new king.

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, G. Gordon Liddy, Michael Savage and other right wing propagandists promote the idea of the infallability of the President. He is referred to as "our leader", "your" or "our President", "your commander in chief", and other slavish and bootlicking terms.
Underneath these terms the real political theory can be examined. It is an old theory, one of old monarchy, despotism, and the divine right of kings. The terms referred to above are a subtle substitute for "your majesty", "your highness", "your excellency", etc. As I have related in other essays these are the old doctrines of monarchist Sir Robert Filmer, Edmund Burke, England's King James I, and the brutal kings of France.

With the advent of the new "war on terror" after the 9/11 attacks, the American right wing has made several inroads into destroying our republican government. The Patriot Act, the increase of the standing army, the creation of a de-facto national ID card, and the creation of an American domestic spy agency called the National Security Service. These events only increase the power of the federal government and the executive branch. The Right loves it because they do not believe in representative government, Jeffersonian Democracy, or the principles of liberty. They are in love with kingship, whether he is called a dictator, king, emperor, governor, or supreme ruler. This is our future unless the Jeffersonians among us rise up and reinvigorate our dying republic with the true ideals of freedom: individual liberty, freedom of religion, press, person, protection of habeus corpus, trial by jury,and the repudiation of monarchy and all of it's trappings. In America today we are seeing the elimination of the experiment in republican government and the trappings on the American monarchy taking shape. This monarchy rules with the help of a wealthy oligarchy of big business, big government bureaucrats, strong central government, and a standing army. This is our future if the authoritarians, both right and left, succeed.

If one more terrorist attack happens in America, particularly if it is catastrophic, we will see the end of American democracy. It will not matter whether the President is George Bush, Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton or some other politician, martial law will be declared, elections suspended, and the rule of one propagated. Congress will eventually be disbanded, and an American Caesar will come to power. Once that Caesar is in power, American liberty will be buried under a new martial society, 500% patriotism, propaganda, and extreme nationalism.

Here is what life under the new Caesar will be like: internal passports to travel within the USA, police checkpoints throughout the states, the establishment of a domestic spy agency (NSS), the annhilation of all state and local power and authority, and the wedding of private corporate interests with the federal government. This is called fascism. Fascism is the philosophy of state socialism and the uniting of Big Business. Big Business serves the fascist state and in return receives monopoly powers and privileges, just like during the monarchies of the middle ages. A aristocracy is erected, the middle and lower classes are degraded through a declining standard of living, poor education, violence and high crime, and the loss of the locus of sovereignty in the people. High at the top of this pile of corruption, bureaucracy, and statism will be a dictator. This dictator will rule through a corrupt and venal oligarchy full of sycophants willing to do his bidding. The people will live in banality, immorality, and fear. This is exactly what the dictator and his minions want.


When this happens there will be no freedom, no liberty, no protests, no opposition to those in power, and no right to privacy. There will be no voices shouting from the rooftops against the new king, no one yelling rebellion or revolution from their soapbox. The only voice heard loudly and strongly will be " ALL HAIL THE EMPEROR!, GOD BLESS HIS ROYAL MAJESTY!"

If those words are heard, it will be too late.

Rise of the Empire, Part 3: "The Emperor has dissolved the council permenently"

In Star Wars IV- A New Hope Grand Moff Tarkin, the commander of the Death Star enters a briefing of his military staff who are arguing over the support for the Rebellion against the Empire. One Admiral begins to state " The Rebellion will continue to gain support in the Imperial Senate.." when he is interrupted by commander Tarkin who enters the room with Darth Vader. Tarkin states " the Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us, I have just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permenently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away." The Admiral then replies "impossible how will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?" Tarkin replies " the Regional governors will have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line; fear of this battle station." This fictional account of the dissolution of a representative body is not new, nor was it placed in the Star Wars saga by mistake. George Lucas has stated he studied the death of republics from ancient Greece and Rome, Revolutionary France and Napoleon, to the rise of Hitler. I believe these historical usurpations of power by tyrannical rulers is very possible in the near future of the United States.

In the last 50 years in the United States we have seen the rise of a powerful national security state along with a growing power in the executive branch of the Federal Government. This has not been by accident. Powerful politicians, military leaders, and members of both branches of Congress have created an Empire that is militarily the most powerful force on this planet. The National Security State which has arisen since the end of WWII and the subsequent Cold War has left a permenent standing armed forces. America is currently in 140 nations around the globe with approximately 725 military bases. This Nation security state is incompatible with a democratic republic. Paranoia, secrecy, coup d' etats, and assasinations are the lifeblood of it's existance. Democratic republics have no need to perform such vile acts. The currency of a democratic republic is respect for civil liberties, representative government, democratic political processes, no standing military, sovereignty in the people, not politicians, and equality under the law. In Empires, these values do not exist. Let's examine a possible scenario based upon previous dissolutions of republican government.

A little over a month ago, an off course aircraft caused mass panic in Washington, DC. The White House was on full alert, and the US Congress was evacuated by armed police and military. Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi was literaly picked up in her chair and carried out. Police officers with weapons drawn entered congressional hearings shouting and ordering all to leave the building. Now this was done obstensibly to save members of Congress from harm. What I find more telling is the precedent it sets for a would be dictator. Suppose the incident had been a real attack and that Congress was evacuated. Assume in the following days after the attack the President asked for total power to "fight terror".
Suppose the Congress granted him this power. Then let's say a year or so down the road members of Congress see tyranny raising it's head: secret trials, military patrols, no habeus corpus protection, and spying of citizens. Some members of Congress begin to object and start to rally both Houses against the President. Then in the middle of a congressional debate and session the President orders soliders to surround the Congress because they are "aiding terrorists". The soliders then enter both chambers and arrest congressional leaders and the President issues a proclamation dissolving the representive body and declaring that he has done so in the name of national security since Congress was aiding the enemy by opposing his security measures. In the days following The President permenently dissolves Congress and declares himself the President for life. Representative government would be dead along with the liberty it is supposed to protect. Impossible you say? Not in America! Well a errily similar scenario happened in the French Republic on November 8, 1799 when Naploleon, along with some aristocrats in the government, destroyed the French legislature. The French Council of Five Hundred and Senate opposed Napoleon's rapidly increasing power. He personally entered the chamber of the Council of Five Hundred and was assaulted by the deputies who realized that he was preparing to destroy representative government. After fleeing he and his brother Lucien, and the Abbe Sieyes, continued their plot against the republic. Soliders were sent to the legislature, surrounded it and forced it to dissolve. The French Senate, called the Council of the Ancients. and the Council of Five Hundred where powerless to stop and the members left in these now rump legislatures approved the Consulate government. This government eventually made Napoleon "First Consul and then eventually Emperor. Why do Americans feel this is so impossible here?

We are ripe for such a scenario. We live disconnected and distracted lives: movies, video games, "Unltimate Fighting Challenge", "reality TV", these are all the gladiator games of the American Empire. Keep the masses busy, distracted, unconnected, and the elite will silently begin their rule. Once in power, like all despots, they will not give up their power without a fight.

The Republican Party and the far Right's near worship of George Bush is reminiscent of the aristocratical mindset of blind obedience to the king. This aristocratical and ancient doctrine has resurfaced in the likes of rabid right wing fanatics like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and G. Gordon Liddy. These neo-fascists promote the idea that loyalty lies with the person of the President, not with the Constitution or the intent of the Founders. Reason, rationality and common sense are cast aside by lies, loudmouth bluster and anti-intellectualism. This is the work of propaganda and manipulation of public opinion through mass media.

The Democratic Party is no better. When in power they promoted the idea that President Clinton's policies were pracitally infalliable and that opposition to him was immoral. Now with Bush in power they are unable to provide a true opposition to imperialism and tyranny. They cower, and meekly oppose the President, and have seemed to perfect the art of cowardly sacrifice of the American people's liberties and freedoms.

I know this all sounds depressing, that is because it should be. We are the closest we have ever been to an end of representative government and Jeffersonian Democracy. Tommy Franks, US Army General and statist, gleefully told Cigar Afficianado magazine a couple of years ago that if the US suffered another catastrophic attack, the "Constitution would probably be scrapped in favor of a military form of government." WOW. Here is a high ranking military general making a prediction of a Napoleonic takeover of the US government. This is a very, very real scenario. Look at the attack just a few days ago in London. Blair and others will soon be screaming for more and more power to fight "terrorists". This type of event is bound to happen in the USA. The claim is made, much like Hitler's claim that communists burned the Reichstag, that Islamic fundamentalists are behind the attack. Do we REALLY know who is behind these attacks? For all we know it could M15, the CIA or even the Mossad.

In any murderous act, you must ask several key questions: why did the incident happen, who benefits, and who has the power to cover it up. This is not conspiracy theory talk folks, just basic police work. The United States , in my humble opinion, is one catastrophic event away from a Napoleonic dictatorship. Once the dictatorship is established, recovering freedom, liberty and republican government will be very difficult. The dictator will use any means at his disposal: the standing military, spies, police forces, and mass propaganda to maintain power.

Once this happens, the Empire will reveal it's true face and the words of Grand Moff Tarkin will ring true " the last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away..."

The Rise of the American Empire, Part 1

With the be release of Star Wars, Episode III-Revenge of the Sith, I thought it appropriate to elucidate people on the rise of the American Empire. For those of you familiar with the Star Wars saga, the Galaxy is ruled by a Galactic Republic which has been in existance for 25, 000 years. The Republic is old and decaying. Greed, corruption, militarism, are beginning to take hold of the Galactic Senate.y In Episode III the Republic falls and becomes an Empire run by the evil Emperor Palpatine whose New Order is enforced by his evil disciple, Darth Vader. This story as told by George Lucas is eerily similar to the decay and corruption in our republic, the United States of America. Let us delve into what I believe are the signs of the rise of the Empire, the death of liberty , and the final elimination of republican government.


1) The Military Industrial Complex
In 1960 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower was leaving office he gave the American people a salient warning in his farewell address. This military man, General and Supreme Allied Commander in WWII, warned us against the rise of the Military Industrial Complex. The MIC is the combination of a large armaments industry, corporations, and the standing military. This combination is responsible for the creation of the national security state. The main goal of this group is to keep the USA on a constant war footing to further keep up their massive profits at the expense of the American taxpayers. This combination has no desire to see peace. War is how their money is made. New toys for politicians to exert power against weaker nations for the benefit of US corporations. Every year the military budget grows larger and larger, more bombs, planes and ships are built and funded, and war planned. To garner support for this program is the propaganda put out by the government - media complex to "support our troops", to "defend freedom" and "fight terrorists". A near worship of the military, and call to "respect" our military "leaders" is hurled at the citizenry. Compare this to our Founding Fathers fear of a standing army. They correctly saw that a standing military is a solecism in a republic. An armed citizenry, and militia made up of free men is the answer to national defense. A standing military is one building block of a growing imperial government.

2) The Elite Super Rich

In the United States today roughly 10 % of the population own 90% of all the wealth in the nation, and 1% of them own 50 % of that wealth. These statistics should frighten every believer and friend to liberty. I am sorry if this offends the fanatical free market libertarians, but these are accurate facts. Many libertarians would say that it doesn't matter if these stats are correct since the wealthy have no desire to oppress the people, because we are potential customers. This is rhetorical nonsense. In every age and nation the elite super rich have been the opponents of freedom and liberty for the masses. The reason for this is they are usually in alliance with the government and control it to their ends. Large concentrations of private wealth buy access to government and power. Whether the aristocrats of the monarchies of the middle ages or the wealthy communist bureaucrats the goal is the same, domination and control of government and enslavement of the people. Our Founders greatly feared large concentrations of wealth and they knew that such wealth was destructive to liberty.

Today the super rich are made up of the CEO's of large corporations,
politicians and government bureaucrats. This combination joins together to pillage and fleece the American people through huge tax breaks for corporations, in turn placing the tax burden on the middle and lower classes, subsidies for businesses and corporations, and fat government contracts. They use the government bureaucrats to feather their own nests and increase their wealth. Mercantilism at it's finest.

Government Bureaucracy

Government bureaucracy. This monster slowly strangles it's victims, the taxpayers, like a Mafia assassin. Taxes are raised every year on the middle classes. These taxes are everywhere: the gas pump, the cash register, property taxes on residences, paycheck witholding, social security, unemployment benefits, etc, the list could go on forever. The rise of administrative law destroys the rights of individuals to a proper due process by prohibiting trial by jury. Regulations are promulgated and decreed on high, written in complicated language and then used to snare the unsuspecting businessman or average citizen in a web of fines, penalties and prison. Over the last 40 years government bureaucracy has grown exponentially. All imperial powers need massive government bureaucracies to rule over the people.

4) Censorship

Free speech in the USA is under extreme assault from both the right and the left. Rightwingers want to ban pornography, censor the internet, arrest people for "treasonous speech", and fund propaganda for the US government. Leftwingers want to pass hate crime laws, institute "speech codes" at colleges, and ban "racial epithets". Of course behind all this is the coercive power of government. The First Amendment is to be cast aside as an archaic law, bringing the USA that much closer to tyranny. Once free speech is completely ended, slavery is inevitable.


5) The Rise of Fanatical Religion and Cults

This is typical of a nation sinking into Empire when you see the rise of anti-intellectual movements like the Christian Right, the animal rights movement, anarchial movements ( both libertarian and leftist), super patriots ( Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Gordon Liddy etc), and general nihlism. All of these movements have objects of hate to unite them. For the Chrisitan Right it is homosexuals, liberals, secular humanists, other Christians, Muslims, Wiccans, Mormons, Roman Catholics, and abortion. For the Animal Rights folks it is scientists, science in general, any form of progress for humans, and people who eat meat. The Super Patriots hate liberals, libertarians, atheists, secular humanists, anyone who opposes their love of war, anyone insufficiently patriotic in their eyes, and anyone who dislikes President Bush. Usually they are sadistic and insecure individuals that love to exude power over others. They also crave the failure and misfortunes of others, usually the poor, and occasionally refer to them as "parasites", on society.


It is as Jefferson called it the "bellum omnium in omnia", Latin for the "war of all against all". All of this leads us closer to Empire as people are busy fighting each other and for causes that are destructive to the preservation of liberty. A republic cannot survive under such stresses, and it makes Empire virtually inevitable.

6) Violations of the Constitution

The US Constitution, while not perfect, is far preferable to 99% of the governing documents in the world, except maybe the Swiss Confederation. The Constitution is a document that lays out the powers of the federal government and along with the Bill of Rights spells out it's limitations. It established a republic, the first since ancient Greece and Rome, with roots in Enlightenment philosophy. The people, not kings, priests, or nobles would possess the sovereignty. Unfortunately since the US Civil War, the US Constitution has slowly been usurped, ignored, and cast aside. Both liberals and conservatives have violated it. Rightists want to portray it as a "Christian" document ordained by God, and Leftists want to make it a "living" document with no real meaning. Both views are not only wrong but dangerous. A government with limitless power is also absolute. The politicians, not the people will rule.

7) The Increase of Executive Power

In conjunction with the growth of the Federal government, has come the inevitable growth of the power and size of the Executive branch. The Presidency, as feared by many of our Founders, has morphed into an elective monarchy. All of the trappings are there. A large salary, a palace ( the White House), a Praetorian Guard ( the Secret Service), unlimited control of the military, rule by decree ( executive orders), and a huge swath of patronage to dole out ( government jobs and positions). The Presidents today, unlike every President from Jefferson to Woodrow Wilson, now address the Congress in person, as if it were a speech from the throne. Two areas are the most dangerous. First the ability of the President to send soliders across the globe without any real approval of Congress, and secondly his ability to circumvent the legislative process by issuing executive orders with the force of law.

These usurped powers are worthy of a king or emperor, not the chief executive of a democratic republic. Sadly, the Republican Party is attempting to elevate the President to the status of a king by their propaganda.His sycophants call him "our President", "your President", "our leader", "the Commander in Chief", etc. This sickening groveling is a far cry from the republican simplicity of Jefferson's presidency where he abolished levees, sent written messages to Congress, reduced the size of the executive branch, refused to proclaim days of fasting and prayer, citing the unconstitutionality of such acts, and normally deferred to the federal Congress on policy matters.

8) Perpetual War

Currently the United States has a military presence in over 140 nations around the globe. This of course puts soliders in precarious situation of being involved in the internal affairs of other nations, making "defense" treaties that further entangle us in wars that are none of our business, nor have any direct threat to the US itself. Empires and imperialists love war. War increases the size of the standing military, increases the military budget, causes civil liberties to be cast aside or abolished outright, and most importantly increases the wealth and power of the imperialists who are in the government. The famous term "war is the health of the state" should be modified to say" war is the health of all empires". Throughout history it has been empires, monarchies , communist dictatorships, plutocracies, and other tyrannies that have been the advocates of power and perpetual war. Republics, if libertarian and democratic, have absolutely no reason to attack each other or any other nation.

Thomas Jefferson described the best of all foreign policies for a nation, especially a republic in his First Inaugural Address: " Peace, Commerce and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none."

9) The Government Media Complex

At one time in the United States the press was free and full of vigorous and spirited debate and discussion. Those days are long gone. Now the Media and the Federal Government have incestous and mutually beneficial relationship that keeps both powerful, and the people duped. Through the power of the FCC the Federal Government can fine, ban, or restrict radio stations, and television from allowing "indecent speech". This doctrine has been supported by both leftists and rightists throughout the last 40 years. Who suffers? Don't we want the banning or restriction of "indecent" speech? I say NO! Personal censorship is the answer. If you don't like something, DON"T WATCH IT! Do not let hypocritical government bureaucrats tell you what you should see and hear. What's next, newspapers? Maybe, but newspapers are already shills for power.

News stations like CNN, FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC, are not interested in freedom. They are part of the corporate government-media complex with FOX in particular leading the charge. With morons like Bill O'Reilly, a shameful, anti-freedom statist, Brit Hume, and Roger Ailes, who runs FOX, they have become the propaganda arm of the Republican Party and the Federal government. O' Reilly calls for newspapers to be shut down, shouts down anyone who disagrees in "No Spin Zone" and behaves like the egotistical bully he is. All the while he parrots the Party line shilling for Bush and Co. at the expense of liberty. The free press, if not dead, is dying. O'Reilly is a symptom of the greater disease of anti intellectualism in which thugs, bullies, and power hungry individuals use force, slander and outright lying to acheive their goals of tyranny and oppression.

10) Debt Slavery

I believe that debt, both public and private, is one of the most corrosive corruptions in our Republic. I, however, view it differently that some of my other libertarian friends. Witness the latest assault on the middle and working classes of the United States, the recently passed bankruptcy "reform" bill. Bankruptcy legislation is one of the enumerated powers of the Federal government, so it is proper for the Congress to legislate on matters of bankruptcy. Most bankruptcies are not,as propagated by the corporate media the result of irresponsible people who get into debt. Oh, of course some debtors are in this boat, most are not. 50% of all bankruptcies are the result of medical bills, and 2/3 of that figure are people who have insurance. Another 40% are the result of death of a significant other (spouse or partner) causing one's income to drop dramatically. The rest are a result of other factors, including irresponsibility. The Republican Party, and some corporate Democrats, have decided to be mercantilists and lend support to their allies in the business world. In the recent "reform" bill, all exemptions for working folks were eliminated. Spouse dies, too bad!, Medical bills overwhelming you, too bad! Lose your job? Too Bad! Also eliminated was the homestead exemption ( this keeps your house from being seized) and if your a veteran fighting in one of the Empire's foreign wars, you too lose any protection that previous laws once provided. As a libertarian I agree that if one can pay back debts they should, but life is not always so black and white. Libertarians need to wake up and acknowledge that the middle classes are the backbone of the Republic. No republic can survive a society of the very rich and the very poor. Large concentrations of wealth along with a large poverty stricken populace might be desirable if you are the head of a Latin American dictatorship, but not a free republic like the US. Our way of life, along with freedom, cannot survive the corporate class war on the rest of society.

The answer does not lie in Marxist redistribution of wealth, but a right wing redistribution is just as bad. This will in effect create an aristocracy similar to those that existed in the middle ages. A new nobility of corporations, government bureaucrats, large industries, and a powerful military will combine to keep the masses in line. Let us recognize this danger before it is too late.

Here is an apt quote from Jefferson describing the condition of the British Empire in a letter to J.F. Watson in 1814:

" the vital principle of the English constitution is corruption, it's practices the natural results of that principle, and their consequences a pampered aristocracy, annhilation of the substantial middle class, a degraded populace, oppressive taxes, general pauperism, and national bankruptcy." What Jefferson is describing eerily resembles the modern United States, doesn't it?

We are rapidly transforming into the old British Empire. The result will be the same calamities that Jefferson described above. Those conditions will be the a further step towards Empire.

These ten planks are I believe the biggest threats to the Republic and a windfall to he rise of the Empire. American history is replete with examples of resistance to tyranny. From the Levellers in the radical English Revolution of the mid 17th century , the radicals of the American Revolution to the Jeffersonians of the early 19th century, we have a history of libertarian and democratic ideals which we can use to oppose the Empire and it's sycophants. If we do not heed this history, we will fall prey to the same despotism that destroyed the Roman and French Republics,and what will be left for our children will be a life of misery, poverty, and slavery. Let's awaken ourselves to the danger before it is too late.

Enemies of the Republic, Part 3-The Neoconservatives

What do Paul Wolfowitz, David Frum, Donald Kagan, William Kristol, Michael Ledeen, and Eliot Abrams have in common? All are neoconservative intellectuals, and powerful men in the upper echelons of the Bush administration. In the third part of this series, Enemies of the Republic, we will see who these men are and what they represent.

The Neoconservative movement was founded by German immigrant Leo Strauss. Strauss, a refugee from Nazi Germany came to the United States in the 1950's and established himself at the University of Chicago. Strauss brought with him the European worldview of mankind, something rejected by our Founders

In this worldview, man is depraved, stupid, weak minded and in need of a strong government. With shades of Alexander Hamilton, Strauss propagated the view that the theories of Europe apply to the people of the American Republic. In this ideal people also need a powerful and dominant religion. Strauss believed religious belief to be a powerful controlling force ( which it is) to be used to manipulate and control the masses. He considered the masses worthy of a Hobbsian government, a strong leader ruling benevolently over all. Strauss and other neoconservatives reject the Enlightenment ideal of increasing human knowledge, infusing critical thinking and philosophy among the people,
and educating the people as Jefferson stated " enabled to know ambition under all it's shapes, and prompted to exert their natural powers to defeat it's purposes.." This is anathema to the neocon. In their view common people, or the middle class if you prefer, are incapable of such learning; and even if they were, such knowledge is not desireable.

This neoconsevative mindset has infiltrated the federal government beginning in the early 1980's culminating in their complete domination with the election of George W. Bush. Through Washington, DC based "think tanks" these neocons have promoted their tyrannical agenda and have suceeded in convincing the American people that they are conservatives. Conservatives, in the truest sense believe in limited government, property rights, individual liberty ,neocons do not.
Neocons do not believe in any of the above ideas. Unfortunately, they have convinced many conservatives and libertarians that they are the mainstream of the conservative movement. Sadly, that is the farthest from the truth.

Through mindless propaganda arms like FOX news, the magazine National Review, and the Weekly Standard these dangerous people have been able to convince many conservatives that :

1) The United States should be an Empire
2) that the masses should follow elitist "leaders"
3) that total war to spread "democracy" is moral
4) that people are fundamentally incapable of self government
5) that the ideals of the Founding Fathers are antiquated ideas
6) a large centralized government is necessary
7) a large standing military is necessary
8)freedom needs to be limited in times of war
9)American "interests", meaning corporations and cartels, should be "protected" by American soldiers
10)the overthrow of foreign governments is not only moral, but necessary to protect our "interests"

These planks are the building blocks of imperial government. All that is needed is a dissolution of the legislative branch, and the President to proclaim himself in office for life. All of these doctrines are as old as civilization itself. A ruling clique usurps the government with promises of protection and "freedom" and then piece by piece dismantles civil liberties under the guise of " fighting terrorism" or some other bugaboo.

Strauss and his neoconservative philosophy is not new. It is the philosophy of Thomas Hobbes, Sir Robert Filmer, George III, Napoleon, and the ancient kings and princes of Europe. This philosophy is one of hierarchy, domination, and despotism. Here is Thomas Jefferson explaining the difference between the Federalists and Democratic Republicans of his day, sums it up best:

" The doctrines of Europe were, that men in numerous associations cannot be restrained within the limits of order and justice, but by forces physical and moral, wielded over them by authorities independent of
their will. Hence their organization of kings, hereditary nobles and priests. Still further to constrain the brute force of the people, they deem it necessary to keep them down by hard labor, poverty and ignorance and to take from them, as from bees, so much of their earnings, as that unremitting labor shall be necesary to a sufficient surplus barely to sustain a scanty and miserable life. And these earnings they apply to maintain their privileged orders in splendor and idleness, to fascinate the eyes of the people, and excite in them an humble adoration and submission, as if to an order of superior beings."

This is an apt description of the neocon mindset. Morons like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, G. Gordon Liddy, excite devotion and submission to the Republican Party worldview, and the elevation of George W. Bush to near monarch status. Bush is called
"our President", "our leader", "your President", "commander in chief", and a "great man". All that is missing is a gold crown, purple robe and sceptre. The neocon world view as professed by Strauss and his disciples
is really the Old World view of European monarchs and the Federalist Party in the early republic. Let's compare this with the Jeffersonian view of the people:

"Ours was on the contrary, was to maintain the will of the majority of the convention ( constitution), and of the people themselves.We believed, that man was a rational animal, endowed by nature with rights, and with an inate sense of justice; and that he could be restrained from wrong and protected in right by moderate powers, confided to persons of his own choice, and held to their duties by dependence on his own view.We believed the complicated organization of kings, noble and priests was not the wisest nor best to effect the happiness of associated man that wisdom and virtue were not hereditary, and that the trappings of such machinery consumed at their expense"

That profound statement above is the antithesis of the neocon worldview of empire and domination over the people of the US and the world itself.

One of the neoconservatives main program planks is the imperial supremacy of the United States around the globe. In 1997 the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was created by neoconservatives Donald Kagen, William Kristol, and Paul Wolfowitz. In 2000 they issued a position paper entitled Rebuilding America's Defenses.This 90 page report is a call for American Empire. Military supremacy, strategic military bases all over the world, and pre-emptive war are recommended. This frightening document is the blueprint for world domination. It is a complete repudiation of the Jeffersonian foreign policy that served the early republic so well.

Combined with Straussian domestic policy and aggressive imperial foreign policy, the neoconservatives are creating a Frankenstein. The Republic is still there, superficially it has elections, courts, constitutional debates, but in reality under the veneer of the velvet glove of democracy is the iron fist of a burgeoning imperial power. Liberty, freedom, democratic electoral politics, and Jeffersonian limited government are being cast aside for war, corporate dominance, and a strong centralized state. This is the neocon dream. They see the Old Republic as archaic, unworkable, and not fit for the modern era.

The neocon worship of the centralized state must have a leader. This leader is President George W. Bush. Bush, a half witted politician, is really a puppet furthering the true goals of the neocons. Using religion, 500% patriotism ( you are either with us or against us), dumbed down public schools, and the mass media, we are looking at a retrogression of sorts. This retrogression will be back to a day, as Strauss hoped, before the Enlightenment. A day when kings ( the President), nobles ( government bureaucrats and corporate fat cats), and priests ( the Christian Right) combine to enslave the populace for their own enrichment. Critisism of the President is called "unpatriotic", "treason", and calls for the imprisonment of anti war and administraion opponents grow. As I have related in other essays it is the return of the Divine Right of Kings with a monied aristocracy and oligarchy to rule us all.

The neocons are also affiliated with the Likud Party in Isreal. They are Zionists. United with the Christian Right they denounce all critisism of Isreal as "anti semitic" and "nazi ". This anti intellectual diatribe is similar to the one used by leftists against white males calling them "racist" or "homophobic" when one of their causes or cliques is subject to any rational review. This is done to silence debate by name calling, slander and ad hominem attack. All such responses are not rebuttals to arguement and debate but are used to discredit their opponent and cause the public to believe that their opponents are not worthy of debate or attention. This is tragic to the cause of liberty since these forms of political correctness and mindless thought control techniques DO scare people into silence.

The Middle East is an obsession with the neocons and the protection of Isreal at all costs is paramount. The arabic peoples are routinely scorned and put down, and treated as vermin in the eyes of the neocons. Of course the other consideration is the large amounts of natural gas and oil in the Middle East. These natural resurces just happen to be connected to many of the corporations the neocons are involved with. Halliburton, with it's no bid contracts, and Bechtel, affilliated with Vice President Cheney, and former President George H.W. Bush and his affiliation with the Saudi Royal family are just a few examples. Modern day mercantilism at it's finest. All of these corporations benefit tremendously from their incestuous relationship with the government and it's warmongers.

Neocons also have dumbed down American history. Beginning in the 1950's neocons and other phony conservatives began propagating the view that the American Revolution was "conservative" unlike the radical French Revolution. This is a flat out lie. Revolutions by their very nature are anything but "conservative", especially the American Revolution.
The American Revolution may have started out as merely a defense of "English Liberties" but soon it became much more radical. Soon the colonists were speaking of the "natural rights of man", and the "sovereignty of the people", neither of which is a "conservative" proposition. Soon the monarchy was replaced by a democratic republic, a written constitution ( unheard of in Britian), a Bill of Rights, and the disestablishment of government religions in each of the colonies within the the first 40 years of the republic. Manhood sufferage was extended,
the right to property protected, and representative government established. Nothing, let me repeat nothing was conservative about it.

The American Revolution was so radical that it spurred the French officers who had come to help the Americans to become infected with the ideals of liberty which they brought back to France with them. Of course conservatives hate both the American and French Revolutions since the ruling oligarchies and monarchies were displaced and the people aroused to defend their rights. Neocons love to quote German aristocrat and paid scribbler for the English government, Fredrich Von Gentz, who propagated the view that the American Revolution was "conservative". Pure nonsense. The European monarchs hated both revolutions. They denounced the American Revolution in the same terms they denounced the French. Words like "rebels", "republicans", "democrats", " the lower sort", etc. European aristocrats despised the very idea of America. Republican government was seen as "anarchy", and it's supporters labeled as "disorganizers", "malcontents", and "jacobins". The neocons are avid believers in the views of European monarchs even though they prattle on about "democracy".

They are attempting to bury the revolutionary traditons and foundations of America to further the Straussian agenda. Neocons secretly hate the American Revolution because it's principles, outlined in the Declaration of Independence, spelled out the right to overthrow tyrannical government and institute new government on according to the will of the people. The will of the people means nothing to the neoconservative. They believe the people are like Alexander Hamilton thought, a "great beast", who are incapable of self government.

One of their most immoral and despotic ideals is the imperial ideal of pre-emptive war. They believe the United States has the right to attack, disarm and dominate any nation on this planet that the President considers a "threat". We would then occupy the nation to bring "democracy" to them. Pre-emptive war is the doctrine of of despots. Lying , fabrication of evidence, propaganda, are all used to sell war to the American people. Fanatical "patriotism" is then whipped into a frenzy by the neocon press; hatred of all who oppose the war, civil liberties advocates, peace groups, are all then spied on, ridiculed and calls for imprisoning them grow.


In their document "Rebuilding America's Defenses" the neocons call for pre-emptive war. They neocon war machine called for invasion of Iraq while President Clinton was in office, advice Clinton rejected. They also ominously called for a "Pearl Harbor" type event to propel the United States and the American people into war. This "Pearl Harbor" event was sent to them in the 9/11 tragedy, a Godsend to their cause. The drumbeat then began against Iraq. Lies and propaganda, false accusations of "weapons of mass destruction" that never materialized, and violation of civil liberties here at home are the lifeblood of their movement.

The neocon war machine is running at full steam, trampling over the Constitution and Bill of Rights. These evil men call for the torture of "terrorist" suspects, indefinate imprisonment as "enemy combatants",
and for the PATRIOT Act to be strengthened. Notice that the civil liberties of not just enemy aliens, but American citizens is at risk.
Habeus Corpus, the ancient right against unlawful and indefinate imprisonment, has been totally cast aside. The right to counsel has been breached by the policy of the Justice Dept to listen to conversations between suspects and their attorney's, thereby destroying any ability to mount a proper defense.The "enemy comabatant" doctrine has been sucessfully applied to American citizens like Jose Padilla. Padilla, arrested in 2002 for being affiliated with a terrorist cell, has never been charged with a crime, and is being held without access to his attorney.
This is the neocon doctrine of the total warfare state. This state is always in a state of fear, and extreme nationalism rules the day. The rights of citizens like Padilla are ignored, violated and totally disregarded.

If the neocons succeed ,the American Republic, which is on life support, will soon die. After it's death the United States ,as it's Founders intended, a democratic republic, will cease to exist. As I have stated in other essays, if this happens a true dark ages will consume the Earth. The new US Empire with it's massive military and fanatical religious zealots and sycophants will leave no stone unturned to further their global ideas of despotism, greed and domination. The Republic of Jefferson, Franklin, Madison and George Washington will be no more. Should this come about the world will truly become what Jefferson feared most from tyranny the " war of all against all" Let's do our best to make sure the neocons do not succeed.

Enemies of the Republic, Part 2-The Multi Cultural Left

In this second of my three part series, Enemies of The Republic, we will examine the Multi Cultural Left. This is a dangerous, hateful, racist movement aimed at tearing down all of the pillars of the American Revolution and the natural rights philosophy. This group, which came of age in the 1960' and 70's is made of Marxists, anarchists, and other nihilistic philosophies which aim at nothing less than total destruction of the intellectual foundations of America and the men who professed them from 1776 to this day. This fifth column is also infused with the philosophy of skepticism, and post-modernism, both which aim at relativism and propagate the idea that there are no truths, not even scientific ones, and that all modern science is based on a "Euro-Centric" order.

From the 1960's to our present day the multi cultural left has been waging relentless war against "Eurocentric" culture, especially any history concerning the Founding Fathers. Usually they are attacked in an ad hominem fashion as "dead white males", "rich white men", "capitalists", etc. These anti-intellectual labels are used to lure unwary young people and others in college into despising their own history and country. A primary target is the author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson. He, of course is labeled a "hypocrite", "racist", "rapist", "slaveholder", etc. He is hated for two primary reasons: one, because he is a white male, and secondly and most importantly his political philosophy of natural rights and human liberty. The ad hominem attacks are used to discredit Jefferson, and the other Founders as human beings, thereby discrediting their philosophy also. They are held to impossibly high standards, and judged retroactively by modern day standards.

One example is slavery. Jefferson, Madison, Washington, etc are excoriated for owning slaves. It is said they should have just "freed" them into their society, regardless of the potential consequences. Forget the fact that in Virginia and other southern states most, if not all whites, would never have embraced nor accepted a "multicultural" society. In the late 18th century the only multicultural socities were held together by force, ie: Russia, Turkey, Latin America, etc. Immediate emancipation of freed slaves would more than likely precipitated a race war and would have totally destroyed the real gains of the American Revolution. Progressive change takes time, and slavery was on it's way to extermination in the western world. The Enlightenment philosophy along with the new market style economies emerging were dissolving old institutions like slavery and feudalism. This is not enough for the multiculturalists.

Next the multiculturalists and post modernists take aim at the Enlightenment of the 18th century. The Enlightenment brought the modern world into being intellectually while the Industrial Revolution performed the same task with economics. Post modernists will tell you there are no real truths, that no one culture is superior to any other. It embraces irrationalism to point of rejecting modern science. One example is relating that an African witch doctor's attempt at curing disease is as valid as modern medical science. Another is that native peoples are always superior to Europeans because they are "one with nature"and more "spiritual" . Notice the race prejudice against Europeans; yet most multi culturalists claim they are "tolerant". Another example is the excoriation of the Spanish conquest of the Americans as "genocide" and a "war of extermination". Ignored is the brutality of the Inca and Aztec Empires. These empires enslaved other Indian tribes, surpressed their cultures, and made human sacrifices to their gods by cutting out the hearts of their victims.
This is not an attempt to justify the brutality of the Spanish, but simply to point out the hypocrisy of the multiculturalists.

The multiculturalists and post-modernists are not content with brainwashing young people in college, but with fervor of a religious fanatic, wish to pass laws to annhilate any opposition to their views. This is exemplified by campus speech codes, "political correctness", hate crime legislation, affirmative action, racial quotas, laws aimed at "hate speech". These are all ideals taken from Stalinist and Marxist- Leninist police states. It is also highly reminiscent of the Spanish Inquisition, the Salem Witch trials, other anti- intellectual movements throughout history. These laws and ideas are usually only applied to their focal point of hate, white males. Just like the Jews in Nazi Germany, the "rich" in the Soviet Union and other communist states, or secular humanists, homosexuals or atheists to the Christian Right, there must be someone to blame for all of society's ills and be a rallying point for hate. Once they have whipped up enough hatred, they can move to implement their evil and despotic vision for the United States. Let's examine life in a Multi Cultural dictatorship, or "People's republic as the communists called it. Here are some laws they would put into place:

Abolition of free speech
Abolition of private property
Supression of religion
massive forced affirmative action
coerced racial quotas
a revised American History ( imputing criminality to everything done by the Founders and Europeans in general)
Second class citizenship for whites, especially males
abolition of all firearms

What a terrifying state the US would become. Notice that it would not be very different from the Christian Right tyranny, just without the religion. Both would annhilate our present democratic republic. Let's now see how the multi culturalists infiltration of academia has succeeded in undermining the American people's faith in the founding principles of the American Revolution.

The American Revolution was clearly the most radical revolution to ever succeed. The colonies went from a centralized monarchy to a republic, and began to implement classical liberal reforms as the world had not seen before.
Most established churches were disestablished within the first 15 years, manhood sufferage expanded, and democratic republics established in each of the 13 new states. Further, a written Bill of Rights was developed protecting the civil liberties and natural rights of the new American citizenry. Freedom of religion, speech, press, freedom against abitrary arrests and unreasonable searches and seizures, trial by jury, and the right to counsel and against self incrimination were implemented. It was truly a radical revolution against powerful centralized government and for human liberty. None of this is good enough for the multiculturalists. They see everything as a class struggle in the true Marxist sense. Civil liberties are ridiculed, the rights of individuals are cast aside for collective rights and the Founders are portrayed in the classic, but erroneous Marxist sense, as rich white aristocrats oppressing the proletariat.

A cynical view of American History is then installed in schools downgrading the acheivments of the Founders, calling them racists, and propagating the view that the American Revolution was a "conservative" movement, a ridiculous notion, indeed! I guess to the Marxists and multiculturalists to have a successful revolution you must be a person of color, live in the third world, and slaughter millions of your countrymen as Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot did. I guess that mass Marxist genocide is considered progress and enlightenment.
Stalin murdered 60 to 80 million of his own people, Mao roughly 40 million, and Pol Pot 4 million, almost exterminating his entire country. True radicalism is freeing people from the shackles of tyranny, not committing genocide against them. In contrast the American Revolution was the first true peoples war, a war of true national liberation.

Noam Chomsky, Cornell West, Jesse Jackson, and other post modernists and multiculturalists save all of their hatred for the United States. Chomsky thinks that the US government is worse than the old Soviets or communist Chinese. Now the US government has done, and continues to do horrible things around the world, but the worse then the USSR? 60 to 80 million people starved, murdered, placed in slave labor camps, a complete totalitarian society without a semblence of liberty. The US is worse than that? Or China ? Mao, the murderer of 40 million people,who intentionally starved, forced slave labor, theft of private property? The US is worse than that? I don't think so. Cornell West, a Harvard University Professor, absolutely despises the ideals of our Founders. On several occasions he has ridiculed the natrual rights theory and engaged in the ad hominem strategy against Jefferson, declaring him a "racist" and not worthy of emulation. West also rails against "Eurocentrism", a phony post modernist creation out of whole cloth. It, of course, is a typical strawman arguement. If it is European descended it must be "evil".

Another post modernist is the Irish born, socialist lover of Edmund Burke, Conor Cruise O' Brien. In 1997 he wrote a book called "A Long Affair, Thomas Jefferson and the French Revolution". In it he declares Jefferson as "unworthy" of our admiration. He also calls for him to be "removed" from our "pantheon of heroes" "piece by piece". The reason behind this is that Jefferson was a "racist" and a believer in the ideals of the French Revolution "high on the wild gas of liberty". He compares Jefferson to Pol Pot for supporting the bloody stages of the Revolution and calls him "father to the modern militia movement" and right wing exteremism. Of course this is to be expected from a man who admires Marxian theory. All counter philosophies must be crushed, even if you must lie.
It is also typical of an admirer of Edmund Burke, a reactionary conservative, who worshipped at the alter of monarchy, aristocracy, and a strong established church. You might say that this is a strange combination of philosophies, but not really. Both Marxist and Burkean philosophy exault the state over all. Individuals are irrelevant to the Burkean and Marxist alike. Rights are not natural, but granted by rulers who are to be placed in splendor, idleness and awe. People are to know their place whether you are a serf or proletarian.
The elite, Marxist or monarchial shall rule you. They will live in opulence, and you will suffer in penury. The Marxist is nothing but a Burkean monarchist wrapped up in new clothes. The aristocracy that Burke admired is still there, just acting like supporters of the people, while all the while keeping them in abject slavery. In this view, you as a human being exist at the whim of your rulers who grant you rights by their own good graces. Tradition, order, hierarchy, and obedience are demanded by the Burkean and Marxist. Where Burke uses religion to keep the masses in line, the Marxist uses a religious devotion to Communist Party dogma and leaders, all in for the same reason as Burke: control of the people to their own ends.

As you can see multiculturalists and other left wing philosophies are really nihlistic in nature. Hatred of anything European, Enlightenment oriented and infused with an unhealthy skepticism and relativism. Marxism is really a philosophy of the Old World. It is very similar to the Hobbsian ideal of a strong government to rule men because they are depraved. It mirrors the Calvinistic philosophy of original sin by maintaining that men are depraved, evil, oppressive, and in need of the Marxist/ Left leadership to guide them to freedom. A "dictatorship of the proliatariat" as Marx called it. Again, witness the idea that men need a dictator to acheive happiness and the goal of freedom.
Of course a standing military is needed to bring this "freedom" to the people along with one party rule, no free elections, abolition of civil liberties, and slavery to the state. The Divine Right of Kings is then replaced with the divine edicts of "the Party". This is not the philosophy of our Founders. Thomas Jefferson rejected the old European theories of government. He felt the philosophies of Hobbes, Sir Robert Filmer, Blackstone, and Burke were not suited for the people of American Republic. Instead the ideas of Locke, Sidney, Paine, Benjamin Franklin and others would be the light which we would guide ourselves to self government.

The American Left has been at war with the ideals of individual liberty, self government and enlightenment since at least the 1960's. They hide their hatred for America and everything American under the guise of fighting fascism. They proclaim to be the paragons of "tolerance" and "diversity" but instead are only concealing their bigotry and prejudice against the ideals of the American Revolution. In the name of tolerance they continually spew forth racial hatred against people of European descent. Whites are always portrayed as priveleged, bigoted oppressors while people of color are portrayed as benevolent, kind, unprejudiced, and enlightened. One Harvard professor named Noel Ingiatev has a website calling for the extermination of the white race. He has called whites a "cancer" on the world and advocates not only cultural, but ethnic annhilation of European descended peoples. Is this "tolerance"? It sounds like the ideals of Adolf Hitler or Pol Pot. Less violent, but hateful policies are the assault on private property through tyrannical environmental laws. These laws are used as a pretext to confiscate private property and to enlarge the power of the state over the people.

At one time the American left was a vibrant, progressive movement for true change. It once consisted of Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Samuel Adams,
Benjamin Franklin and other revolutionaries. Sadly, the American left has since embraced the old European theories of government in the form of cultural and economic Marxism. Marxism is only the old European theory of centralized government, and feudal slavery wrapped up in revolutionary rhetoric. Very little , if any of it's philosophy is revolutionary. Instead it embraces the reactionary ideals of strong government, an ignorant and enslaved populace, and an elite ruling the masses.

Along with their counterparts on the Right, the Left is engaged in the systematic demolition of the American Republic and Jeffersonian Democracy. As each brace, each piece of the Republic's foundation rots, crumbles and falls, the Empire silently grows. One day the Republic will be no more. When that happens the United States, as the last bastion of relative freedom and liberty will be gone, and the globe will then spiral into an abyss of tyranny and a new dark age. The American Left are certainly doing their part to hasten that day on all of us.
